Meet the Battler Belt: One Heavy-Duty Elastic Belt

Introducing our toughest belt yet, the Battler. Rather than blather, we've decided to write this blog post in Question & Answer format, so you can easily find the vital info you need.

Another belt? What makes the Battler different?

Yep. We've actually had this belt in development for a while, and now we're excited that the time has arrived to reveal this brand new creation to the public. First of all, the Battler has a bombproof metallic belt buckle made from zinc alloy, a material even stronger than aircraft grade aluminum. Secondly, the strap is made with thick (3.3 mm) woven nylon elastic with a tight stretch. This combination makes ours the strongest elastic belt on the market today.

How does this nylon elastic differ from woven polyester elastic?

This thick nylon elastic has noticeably different properties than the elastic we use for most of our stretch belts, however each type has its particular benefits. The main difference between the two is that nylon elastic is denser and has a tighter stretch. That, combined with the extra thickness of our custom-made webbing, allows our nylon strap to hold steadfast in a slide buckle without slipping. The thickness and density of our nylon elastic make it feel more similar to a leather belt strap in some respects. On the other hand, the woven polyester elastic used in our Betta Belt (for example) is of comparable thickness but it's stretchier and softer. That makes polyester elastic more lightweight, flexible and perhaps comfortable, if you prefer "give" over support.

Didn't you once sell another stretch belt with a metal belt buckle?

Yes, those of you who have been following us since the beginning might recall that we once sold another stretch belt with a metallic buckle. That was back in the days when each belt was manually sewn on a vintage Singer sewing machine in the spare bedroom. The problem was that the woven polyester elastic stretched a tad too much for a slide-style buckle, and the strap would not stay tight all day. So, we chose to discontinue that belt until we could find a superior solution.

What is the Battler designed to be used for?

We created the Battler for those who value strength and durability most, but still want those qualities in a stretch belt. The zinc alloy metal buckle is practically unbreakable under even the harshest conditions. The heavy duty nylon elastic stretches some, but it is still rigid enough to support tools or whatever tactical gear you may choose to attach to your belt. The Battler would be an excellent choice for most outdoor activities, skilled trade work or casual wear. And, unlike many other strictly utilitarian buckles out there, we actually designed this belt buckle to look as great as it worked. With its brushed gunmetal finish, symmetrical rounded ends and centered strap through the middle, this buckle is stylish enough for most occasions.

Why does the Battler cost more than your other belts?

In a nutshell, this new belt costs significantly more to make. First, our specially made metal buckle is three times more expensive than it costs to produce our thermoplastic buckles. Second, we only found one factory that could custom make heavy-duty nylon elastic stiff enough to work with a slide buckle, and naturally that material is also more expensive. The new factory also incorporated some extra touches, like high quality box X stitching that covers the sealed edge on the inside of the strap, rounded heat-sealed strap tips and more attractive packaging. Third,  heavier belts incur higher freight costs and all belts are currently subject to higher tariffs, in addition to normal customs fees and duties. All the above contribute to higher costs, but that's what it takes to bring this one-of-a-kind belt to market. In the end, BESTA continually strives to create better quality products for our discerning customers, as opposed to cheaply made generic alternatives.
